well its said that the neck that it on the water outlet of the block has the year n month the motor was made on it... 97/4 (1997/april)

One way is to hit the dyno. Rev the motor to 7800 rpm and stop. If your power drops instantly after 7200 then your valve floating. If it keeps to 7800 then your fine.

Ok so Pre-98 may have had better castings but which had the stiffer valve springs?
