what gets me is, how you say you can tell its going to kick in at 2000 rpm when i'm assuming its kicking on much later around 4500-5000rpm..

if your engines that oil starved you might want to stop driving it until you can get an oil pressure gauge.. i know you said funds are tight, but they'll be much tighter if your engines gives out.

Not driving it isn't an option. It's been like this for a little over a year now. No noticeable change in anything. Oil starving worries me too. I do have a roller and non roller sitting in the garage but I'd prefer not to go there.

I would rather spend a little money to make sure my engines not going to die then to keep driving it without knowing whats really going on.

If you've already covered the basics theres nothing really left to do but get an oil pressure gauge.

but for shits and giggles.. what are you using to activate the cams?

Thanks for the help, I agree with your caution but have to push on even if I blow it up. The razor's edge and all...

I'm using an MSD 8969 with an LED in the cabin grounded by the switch to confirm operation. My wiring skills earn me a living so that part should be OK. I'd prefer to use a relay setup with the switch, but it's worked fine for years so I never bothered. The only other thing there would be a manual push button to overide the MSD.

To be clear, the led comes on at desired RPM, but the actual vvl does not?

Exactly.

Yeah i doubt its an issue with the switch. Ive always wired vvl without a relay just using the box and never had any issues.

Its pretty obviously an oil pressure related issue. Whether it be the pump or the pickup tube cracked.
