i dont think the whine u hear is a normal thing. could be a bad PS pump or something. might want to check that out.

Sadly, at least in the U.S. market, Nissan never had variable valve timing in anything, at least nothing performance oriented like sport compacts. (although I have no idea if they used some type of valve timing in something else like the Xterra or whatever)

That would have been awesome. Although more realistically, they should have put the SR20VE in the B14. I give Nissan a pass on the B13 as it was a brand new chassis and the SR20DE itself was a huge improvement and innovation over just putting another GA16DE in there. But for sure, at least the B15 could have had the SR20VE instead of the QR.. while the QR makes decent power I think we can agree the VE is better suited for modifying.
