Thread: 20V and N1 cam mix good / bad?

Hi team,

What are the ideas, opinions, real world experience with mixing cams in a 2-litre VE?
Found a brand new N1 exhaust cam, though missing the matching intake; options for an intake...
Keep with the stock 2.0VE intake,
Get an aftermarket intake cam,
Get a pair of matching aftermarket cams,
Use an intake cam from a 20V,
Or any other ideas to share?

Mods are tune-able ECU, cleaned up intake, modified secondaries, mandrel bent2.5", de-cat, one reso, one decent muffler, 4.375:1 Autech LSD box, light flywheel, U/D pulleys, 1600 water pump, all on standard untouched 2-litre VE.

Ideas, suggestions, constructive comments are welcomed

Buy a new N1 intake cam.

Its not that simple to get a new intake came. There is a MASIVE back order. Nissan might not even make any more n1 cams and if they do, that batch will prob be swallowed up instantly by the already ones on order.

Are you doing anything to the head regarding springs?
How far are you reving?
It prob be best to have matching cams, might be easier just to fork out the cash for some aftermarket cams instead of mucking around with mixed cams.

400 - 450 USD they go for.

- If there is a massive back order, it would be stupid for them not to make more with the demand so high. I'm glad I picked up two sets when I did.

Not planning on changing springs, at this stage.
With the stock cams 7,600.
Can get 20V cams, highly considering this as an option.

How would the 20V intake react with the N1 exhaust cam?

I would be more worried about the different overlap and lash with mixing cams. Its not just the duration and lift you need to compare. If you were rebuilding the head, re-shimming it and then using adjustable gears maybe you could get them to work together. The effort would surplus the gain over just finding a good pair of oem/aftermarket cams.
