Shimming rebuild head using OEM Cams. Must do?
Im getting to the last stages of my part ordering for the head of my build.

Im using:

Supertech Dual springs
Supertech Titanium retainers
Supertech Valve seals.
N1 & 20V cams.

I was going to try Both N1 and 20v cams to see what i like best. My built is boosted.

How important is it to reshim the head? I did a quick search and some people say with OEM cams it isn't required. Others say as soon as you touch the valves (removing them for springs ect) you should re shim.

I'd like to hear from people who have rebuilt their heads with new springs and maybe similar builds to mine.

If you have had the valve faces or seats ground your clearances will be different and require a re shim. If your just throwing springs and seals in then there is no reason to worry about it, but id suggest checking clearance anyways

I used the same shims when I reassembled my head. I only took it apart so it could get surfaced and I changed the springs and retainers. I did write down where all the shims went on the head though.

Two different opinions.

Anyone else have any comments?

How much are the shims from nissan? Or would a good engine builder be able to source them as they are needed.

Cory answered your question. If you did not do anything to the valves or the seats the clearances should not have changed and the stock shims should be fine. If your worried have the clearance checked when the head is reassembled.

Most people don't bother to reshim when swapping different stock cams. But, if you want the most out of the stock cams then you need to reshim.

The N1 and 20V cams have different valve lash clearance specs.

Remember to number all the valves so you can put them back in the same place.
