Notching for valve reliefs would definitely take off some of the weight. It would not take off enough to make it the same weight as the SR16 piston but as you say, it is bigger.
SR16 piston is 86mm, VG30 piston is 87mm. Where are you getting the 2 mm difference? Am i reading Payu's original post wrong? Did he say he found a 1mm over bore ZX piston, which would be 88mm? Or is he saying that it is 87mm but 1mm over the SR16 piston?
Over bore ZX pistons from Nissan are maximum 87.5mm.
