Some question about ve swap..
I have a 91 sentra with a sr20de swapped in it when i got it. I am planning on doing a ve swap sometime down the road and am trying to get all my research and pricing together. First off where is the best place to get a ve motor? And how will it run with a stock de ecu?. I was also looking at getting a calum realtime but i cant find anywhere that sells them. It will be about 8 months before i actually do anything, but i am just trying to get everything worked before hand. thanks in advance for the help.

Best place: Andreas Miko
ECU: It will run rich but it will still drive okay, it wont run like it should though. You can always swap out the VE injectors for the DE injectors and advance the timing though. It will get you closer to it. I recommend not doing that for long though.
Calum: Is out of the ECU game. Hard to find his ECU's now. There are a few alternatives. Some people are still chipping ECU's and you just have to live without the realtime features.

You will need reducers for coolant hoses, some form of switch to activate the VVL. MSD 8969 is a cheap easy way to do so. Its been a while so I may be forgetting something.

I also was searching around and found nismotronic they sell ECU's with a base tune for 200. Have you ever dealt with or heard anything about them?

I personally have not but there are plenty of people on the forum who have been using their stuff and I have yet to read anyone who has had issues. I have to assume their basic ecu is the same as calums used to be, daughter board and chips burned for your setup. Any indepth questions I am sure you can direct to them and they would be more than happy to assist a potential customer.

It would be much better to run the stock VE ecu rather than the stock DE ecu

You cannot just plug and play the stock VE ecu into a b13. In fact I dont believe i know a single person who has ever done it.

But wouldn't it be better to have a chipped de ecu than a stock ve

Unless i'm missing something thats different in the B13... I know of plenty of P10's (highports) with VE swaps who used the stock VE ecu in the beginning. They use the same ECU plug.

VE ecu will run a bit rich due to the CVT maps and has a low rev limit. But you can use the ecu to do the VVL activation (but you will need to run wires to the solenoids)

If you use the DE ECU, make sure you use the DE injectors and maf. You can cause damage to the engine by using the wrong injectors.

In the long run, it is better to get a Chipped/daughterboarded ECU. I'm not a fan of buying pre-tuned ECU's off the shelf would be even better to have someone tune your car when everything you want is swapped in.

yea pten, the B13 is different from the p10. IIRC In order to use a stock VE ecu you have to swap over the wiring harness, the instrument cluster and that is an incredible pain in my opinion when a chipped DE ecu works just as good if not better, and you can even get a launch control setting programmed into a chipped OBD1 ecu. The cost sways the whole decision very much in favor of the DE ecu w/ daughter board.

I always thought the SR's in B13's were highport's and used the same highport ECU's?
My mind is in JDM sr's / Jap cars as thats all we get here haha
