Thread: best Intake size piping

Hi guys

I have in mint some set up but I wanna know which one is the best way

1- 3.5" WAI with vibrant velocity stack 3.5" to 6" and K&N filter

2- 3.5" CAI with vibrant velocity stack 3.5" to 6" and K&N filter

3- 3" WAI

4- 3" CAI

for now stock IM ( but in a couple of weeks custom IM w Q45 TB )

Test it out. Id think the 3.5 wai would prevail.

turbo = intake pipe the same size as compressor housing inlet

non turbo = intake pipe the same size as the throttle body inlet

For NA

WAI, I would do 3 in

CAI, I would do 3.5 in

so why there is gain when the b-series guys use the password jdm intake?

because it looks cooler and like carbon fiber. cooler plus carbon fiber= obvious power gain haha

For N/A I like to see the TB and MAF and piping all the same size with a good bellmouth transition from a large filter. Keep the intake short and put the filter somewhere where you can seal a box around it and make sure that box has a large source of cool air.

Same rules apply for turbo cars IMO, however you can make due with smaller diameter MAF/TB if you must.

Usually stepping the intake down to throttle body size will make more power.

I've even seen 200whp cars gain with 4in piping stepped down to 3.5 then 3 and into a >70mm throttle body.....

Cory's right, I didn't want to get too complicated with it. As long as your transitions are good, go as large as you can slowly going down in size to the TB (largest TB you can fit). Don't forget the gains to be had with ram air.
