There are "turbo" ve-t cams made for big turbos from Kelford with even more duration, lift, and subsequently more overlap than the n1 and have proven to make great power and hold without falling to the 9500rpm that the guy took it to.
Like I said, on big efficient turbo setups the overlap can be an advantage as long as your backpressure is lower or equal to your boost levels. The biggest advantage is the extra duration and lift but with the extra duration comes more overlap usually. Overlap is only a bad thing on small t2 turbo setups where backpressures will often see double the boost pressures. Then it would be a bad thing to have a lot of overlap. Hmmm why do you think the VET cams have such little overlap. T2 turbo possibly? lol.
