Thread: Having problems with a De baffle in a Ve

Hey guys, Ive searched and cant really find an answer anywhere. I recently bought a ve and took it apart.I will be putting my de 8cw crank in it. While tearing it down I noticed that my oil pan did not have a windage tray, which I know some ves did not come with. I dont feel comfortable not having a windage tray, and also not having a girdle at the same time I want one or the other.
I tried to put my de girdle on my ve and I found that it does not fit in the block, it hits the walls near the fifth main cap.I know the ve caps are different but even if I put my de caps in, I dont see the girdle fitting. I did notice that my ve block is narrower than my lowport block.
My main question for those of you who have put a de girdle in a ve is what exactly did you have to modify?
Did you guys use de main caps and line bore the block? Did you guys shave the girdle so it clears the block by the fifth main cap? Did any of you even run into this issue?

Once again I have read through the existing threads about putting de girdles in a ve and I did not find any answers that were similar to my situation, from what I read people seem to say it bolts right in.

When i built my ve-t the girdle bolted right in just have to make sure you use the de pns too. Sure it's not a det awd girdle? I know some of those are different.

No its from my lowport I personaly took apart, the pans arent even the issue yet. It just will not fit the block, maybe I should just try the de mains first see if it helps. Thanks for the input, it really bothers me that everyone says theirs bolted right in and mine isnt.

The DE girdle should bolt up to the VE just fine. I've done this a few times. The lower oil pan/block of the VE has some oil channel fins that interfere though. So you need to either remove them or run a DE lower oil section and sump/oil pan. And you off course need the longer DE main studs.

Unless you're looking for big turbo application then the 8cw without the girdle should be just fine. The girdle kinda messes up the windage allready and robs some hp.

My problem is that my de pans dont fit the ve block either, I have a narrowblock ve and the de pan is a lot wider. Im thinking of just swaping the ve head onto my de block and getting the oil squirters machined in, because as of right now thats the only advantage my ve block has to my de.

There is no such thing as a narrow block VE.

There are 2 basic blocks for the SR motors in FWD-AWD configuration. You have the FWD block and the AWD block. The AWD-DET-VET blocks are slimmer by about 1.5 inches. All DE and VE blocks have the same width.

Next any girdle will fit any SR20 block. Please take note that the DET and VET are the narrow blocks and they all come with girdles.

Lets be honest, you are not doing something right and the solution to your problem is simple.

To put a girdle in you will have to take off the rear main seal housing, which is held on by 4 10mm bolts. Once you have done so the girdle will go right in. To put the girdle in you will have to get longer main bolts from a regular DE-DET which can be had from G spec for about $50. Please leave the damn main caps alone and put the girdle right over them.

Once you have gotten to this point let me know and we will continue.

There were awd non turbo ves in the y11 wingroad and u14 bluebird. I think I have one of those motors. I had the rear main cap off, the block is pretty much bare right now, I will get pictures tonight to show what I mean.

Are you maybe confusing the CVT motor with the VVL motor?

Show a picture of the VE motor you have.

I have never seen or heard of an NA AWD SR20VE and I dont think they ever made such a thing.

Even if that was the case the girdle would still fit. Like I said already all DETs and VETs are AWD and they come with girdles. so if you happen to have an AWD VE, then it would still fit.
