Thread: VVL spark plug gap

Ive been searching the forum(s), and found alot of different answers on the best gap for the BKR6E-N-11 plugs(the plain jane copper ones). Now, I'm talking about a mostly stock VE here,no turbo or crazy cams and such.

What has been your preferred gap? Has anyone found the manufacturing recommended gap?

From what I gathered was having a bigger gap is better then a smaller gap. But everyones answers were scattered. So post up what worked best for you.

Make sure to never gap Platinum or Iridium plugs ReggaMuffin!

As for gapping,

You need a gapping tool that you slide in until you get the desired gap.

Well, I just gapped my plugs to '40 and the car runs great.

Before I ran Iridium's I found that been gapped at .039 made the car run the smoothest, .045 was too much, .032 didn't feel like enough.

Now that I have a ScanGauge, I can see if .032, .035, .039, .040, make any difference in HP/MPG.

You can run as large of a gap as you want as long as it doesn't detonate. I think I used to run my de @ .043 thousandths on bkr6e plugs. I noticed the upper revs were a little smoother.
