How high can the stock SR20VE Rev to?
Over the weekend i had an incident, where my Transmission decided to take a Crap on me. During my incident, shifting from 3rd to 4th where i normally shift at 8k, i decided to shift at 7500. Shifting, and i found that my gear "went in" but my engine would only Rev, and my car wouldn't accelerate. During this, i saw the Tach needle hit the 9k range. I suddenly had a feeling of disgust!! thinking to myself, There goes another motor down the drain!! To my aid, i realize it wasn't my engine but was something to do with my transmission.

So my main question is, how high can a SOCK sr20ve Rev too, without blowing your motor..

I hear people say 7500, others say 8, and others even say you can get away occasionally hitting 9k.

On sr20VE cams, and their profiles you start valve floating at 7200 or 7500 depending on the cam springs that came with your motor. That means your valves will hit the piston if you over rev it.

On N1 cams you can rev to 9k and be safe, but it's not advised on a stock motor.

i just got my VE swap this past week by Miko and I was told on stock springs/retainers to shift between 7500-7700 rpm. i believe the stock VE cams don't make much power after that. upgrade ur valve springs/retainers and N1 cams and supporting mods 9k all day. i'm pretty sure there are different opinions out there. hope this helps.

I redline mine at 8k, when i'm driving like Tanner Foust. Never been passed 8k because i've been afraid. But over the weekend when i had that little mishap, it went all the way up to around 9k.. I thought i blew the motor, then realized it was just something to do with my clutch/Trans. Stock sr20ve springs/retainers/cams.
