CNC Head porting
checking in on this side of the forum over the past several weeks I have seen the topic of CNC heads pop up with lack of support. Searching around this weekend netted a company I think the community may be interested in to outsource some R&D. They already offer honda/Toyota support with their main services for SB/BB chevy heads. They have a 5 axis CNC machine to do the work. So it is worth checking out. Here is the website.

M2 Race Systems © - CNC Ported Cylinder Heads & Custom CNC Porting

Skimming over their pricing options, they seem reasonably priced for the headwork and options. Just a thought..

Actually machining the head with a cnc is nothing too special. The beauty of course is being able to replicate the port exactly time after time...

The real key is testing a dozen or so different port designs, and then finding the one that dominants. You can hand port the head until you have it absolutely and completely optimized and then you copy the dimensions into the computer and let the cnc start doing its job.

We need to find someone with both a cnc, reputation we trust and the willingness to put in some serious time and work to find out what will be best on our 2.0 and another port for the big 2.3+ motors..

the difficult part is showing said company that theres enuff intrest.

how many people on this board have worked heads ? not many.

Well stratton, I dont think we have enough interest to get them to put in the r&d for free. I think we have enough interest to send some heads for the cause and we can have a few of us to split the hearty bill on the r&d. We get a hand full of guys genuinely interested ill put some work in and find out who's willing and how much.

A close friend with a 10 sec Kseries works for 4piston racing.

If the interest is there I can send a casting there and work out pricing for there cnc work.

Another whole part of this is that on 99% of our motors the heads are not the restriction. The intake manifolds are not keeping up the heads anyway.

I hold 4piston heads with the highest regards, they do some incredible heads. That would probably be my top choice right there..

guys id be down depending on the details. i know head work is very important on any motor, theres only a few set ups we can do so its not like the k guys who have multiple set ups.

we have 86/87x86 , 92x86 and 92x92 so im guessing it wouldnt be that hard for a reputable company to get something to work great on those 3 set ups.

this is true. speaking to jamie today, i mentioned i wished we had a few more off the shelf options for itbs. i wouldnt evenk know were to start looking. the difficult part is the cf horns.

jamie, would a 3 axis water jet be able to do that ? that might be a possible cheaper option to the hand laid horns.

Did any of you guys had a close look at Derm's E46 throttles?
He designed an angled adopter plate which allows for about any length velocity stack without interference from the firewall.
I had a set flown in from him and had it flow tested when I had my cyl head ported. Total flow loss with the adaptor and E46 throttles was only 2.5%
