VVL vs. T25 question
All hypothetical and just for fun - say you have two B13's, one with a well running VVL swap with all the typical bolt-ons. How well will it fair against another B13 with a stock DE that's running say a modest t-25 setup? Let's assume equal drivers and the same tires and suspension for both. For both auto-x and at the strip? My friend and I were talking about this and discussing other factors such as cost, reliability etc.

I would have to say the advantage goes to the ve on this one.

Top end, the VE all day, I believe the small turbo cannot keep up at the higher RPMs on stock cams.

A lot depends on the application and what is or is not stock.

T-25 setup running the way they are supposed to trap .107-109mph
1/4 I say t-25
Road course I would think Vvl exiting the corners.

Yep that's what my friend and I were thinking. All just chit-chat with another SR20 fiend. I have a JDM DE and he has original DE, we just have bolt ons. But I've been in several DET's, and was amazed at the pulling power, but never in a VVL. Actually, never even saw a VVL in person.

VVL's use to be these mysterious motors back in the day now there common... I say DET all day... VE will be nice up top but DET is gonna make 230WHP/230TQ pretty easily VE will not. Even if it gets around 210whp TQ will be around 160

That's another question I have, as I have been gone awhile - what caused this VVL 'craze' anyway? Just in effort to keep up with these brand new base model accords that come with 260 hp stock or whatever?

Did people get a bit tired of the DE's? Was there some event or reasoning behind why the VVL is now everywhere?

Cause you are right, a decade ago the SR20VVL was almost like an urban legend, the holiest of all. So I disappeared from the scene for 7 or 8 years and was lured back due to the classic's 20th aniversary and decided I wanted to get another, and was shocked to see how many of you do in fact have the VVLs.

Who says a t25 cant keep up on the top end ? Lol. Im a bit of a highway top end junkie ( hope this dont get deleted) but my old b14 ve with basic tune and sr16 cams would struggle to reach 140 were as my b13 with a w11 gt25@8psi and s3's could touch the 150 mark with out a sweat. Now these big ve build thats a different story . Ve's dont seem to have low end power they seem more mid to top end atleast thats how my b14 felt .

Turbo all the way. The torque alone will murder a VE, especially out of the corners.
