Yeah that's kind of my interest too. I mean I'll go to test'n'tune once in awhile but I like actually driving much more.

I just see a lot of people doing an overbore these days and was wondering so I may do a VE build eventually.

Great build Joe. Only thing I would recommend is the mfactory final drive. As you know and saw, my old setup was similar to a point with your build. I loved how it pulled. It felt great up to 9k without a hiccup. The only thing is the factory trans is way too long to take full advantage of the motor. I personally dislike the sr16 trans as that 3rd to 4th is a killer.

^ This times a million.

The SE-R gearbox has very evenly spaced gearing and pairing that with an aggressive Final Drive would really make it a very fun car on the track.

well im gonna agree. but disagree.

the 16ve box and the de box share the same 3rd to 4th. only diff is the final drive. the 16ve ve box has the better final drive. so the 16ve box will go threw the gears faster then a de box.

but if you throw in a de box with aft final then yes de box with aft final for sure.

happy good luck with your build bro. i will be doing a very similiar build. it will be great to see the difference bewteen the two.

Well, I'm hoping that since I have a B15 tranny and IIRC 3rd and 4th are closer than an SR16 that I will be ok. Plus it has a Quafe LSD already loaded in it so it definitely stays for now. 3rd and 4th should be great road course gears with a wide power band, I'm hoping really strong across 6-9,000. I'll gladly give a little peak to get the curve

This is not true.....

The sr16 has a shorter 1-3 yet shares the same 4th gear. This means less traction 1-3 but then when 4th gear comes up you have a longer gear spread. So you have a dead spot where the revs fall out of the power band on the 3-4 shift. This is why id always prefer a de box with a shorter fd. I like the even spread of the de box vs the quick 1-3 then longer 4th...

i see.

still the 16ve box will be the faster then the de box, correct ?. as far as on paper.

23 inch slicks and a rev limit of 9ish and you can go threw the traps 1/4 wise.

on a road coarse the 16ve box should still be faster then the de box. correct ?

this was always my understanding of the differences of the two.

For installing a shorter final drive, which DE box are you guys referring to? i've been wanting to get another B15 transmission after I sold my other one to a kid in need of a transmission.. (still kicking myself for that)

The 91-99 lsd trannys we are speaking about. A lot of the cars with the 16ve trans cars I disliked. The car ran like a raped ape 1-3 then felt like 500 pounds hit the trunk in 4th. You have a solid trans though. For a road course, it should do just fine. It may hurt you in the 1/4 but then again thats not what this car is being built for. Whatever it is, best of luck. Should do great overall!
