Charles has been very helpful to me many times but we should not let this thread be about this n that. I'll pull that out of the post... or a mod can.

I do think there is some variation in VEs over the years. It fits w/ Nissan character that the first one is totally rugged and then it gets watered down.

Dre has looked at hundreds (maybe over 1k dunno) of these motors by now so he's probably got the answer.

Has anyone owned a 96 VE motor? Had a couple of 97 motors that were strong runners, one that's in my 94 now. I remember that there were some issues with intake manifold flashing inside the runners on the later VEs (99-01).There were pics posted on the forums but it's been a while. The 98 VE I just installed in the 91 didn't have this problem. Kojima made mention that the later VEs seemed down on power when he had tested one of them a few years back. Definitely agree that Nissan has the bad habit of watering down a strong platform just for mass production. 11:1 stock regular VEs from the factory anyone?

Yup, here is an example pick. Mine is a 97/6, or June 1997.

I have sold and installed many a VE motor and I have not seen any real hard evidence that says any year VE motor makes more power than the next. So showing a production date means nothing more than a production date when it was made. Nothing diffrent than the production date on the chasis of the car.

All VEs I have done with JWT intake, 95 Maxima MAF, JWT ECU, header and 3inch exhaust make 179-183 WHP.

Add some N1 cams to the mix and you get 196-201 WHP.

Any motor that I have had that has made more than that made 205-212 had some trick 4 into 1 header and or aftermarket intake manifold.

I have heard people talking about how some of the older VE's had cleaner castings on the head/intake mani which made more power. All the VE's I've see looked like the same shit to me.
