Thread: Part throttle hesitation esp when hitting vvl.

See I may just go and roll the car up onto the ramps and disconnect it. The knock sensor part of the harness is unique; mostly unmolested.

The mechanical timing is/was close enough that it should not have been doing this... but I believe the knock sensor does not eff things up at WOT. unsure.



The thing is they are usually a supre pita to get loose while the motor is in the car. I'd have to get creative because I been in there before and its tough to get a wrench on the thing w that much tq. Rahter wait till I can tear off the manifold and go to replace the heater core hoses this spring when I throw in the new wiring harness. I'm 100% sure its not pinging at all.



Yes we set it but idle was at 1050 so technically its out of spec... but the timing was only at 16 so I knocked it back just a skosh. If anything now the timing is retarded a bit. It wasn't very far off in the first place.

You know how much I appreciate that. But I just don't have the time or funds to dump into the car right now. Plus if I pull this car apart its going to be one time, and I want to put it up for a few days and take care of things proper. Unless I have greater ambition (read paycheck) and take it apart totally.

Honestly at this point I regard this car as a parts container for my next B13. Its just not clean enough.

Disconnect your solenoids and see how it runs, mines had a similar problem last month and it turned out to be that the 8969 was staying on, causing hesitation and shutdown

Thank you. I did this and it seems to be much smoother. I felt a bit of a hitch but that was slight at part throttle in second in a crowded parking lot. All my regular pulls were all the same thrashy SR20 pull all the way up to 7000rpm plus.

One thing I noted was the vvl solenoid that has the black rubber boot was wet in oil all the way through the connector. I guess its leaking from the seal on the end were the connector is. Its not weeping but its got the whole connector and inside the solenoid connector wet w oil.

Could this be my problem? I cleared the ecu codes lase week and have not thrown the knock sensor or any other code yet.

I have the the jwt ecu as well on my ve . runs good but hesitates around 3500 - 5000 rpm . getting the knock sensor code as well sounds like the same problem . the knock sensor has continuity on the right terminal but not the left. the book calls for continuity on the left terminal. so im thinking this could be part of it .

crank angle sensor disk was installed upside down. make sure the numbers are facing you

Normal power delivery on cold and hot operating temp, but right after spirited driving and hitting vvl several times, i start experiencing hesitation at light or WOT, like stepping on throttle all the way and the engine barely wants to run.

only get Hesitation after hard driving

any ideas?

knock sensor ... please run diagnosis on your ecu.. you might get continuity with multimeter at the time you check but it might have loosen connection or defected cable , i having such problem before .
