Thread: Headgasket thickness deiferneces..

does anyone have actual data of the compressed thickness of the STD OEM SR20VE headgasket and the SR20VET metal headgasket??
I need to find this out because it seem like SR20VET headgasket its significantly thicker and lowers the CR on SR20VE's anyone with actual data please share..

How would be the best way to check this...?

I did a search the other time and the Vet is 1.5mm. And Ve are 1.2mm.

If im not mistaken the stock headgasket is .9mm thick compressed. Dont know what the vet one is. I know most aftermarket gaskets start out at 1.1mm thick compressed probably to make up for any resurfacing removal as most people during rebuilds have the head and block resurfaced anyways. That and .2 difference isnt going to have much affect on compression.

But the compressed thickness can make a change since the metal headgasket wont compress as much as the STD headgasket...
My friends here have tested both and they prefer the STD one it gives better results so I dont know...

is using a feeler guage between the lip of the block and head of an assembled motor a good way to measure this?...

I just dont see .2mm difference making that much of a difference on compression. I could see a a 1/2mm or more making a difference.

Maybe not with stock pistons but with SR16 pistons it makes a difference..
My friend here have tested both and he tells me that can make up to 25 psi per cylinder difference and can add some whp and also also it can affect cam timing I am leaning toward a .8mm VS. 1.4mm that add up a .6mm difference

just wanna ask ,are you saying that you are using Oem ve headgasket(non metallic??) with SR16ve pistons and still reliable?
