Yeah didnt see the 600 budget, if thats the case just leave the motor along and boost the stock VE, done properly it will take 350-400whp pretty well, if your wanting that on pump gas especially on the 2871 you will have to be on race fuel without question.

You could reliably do 300whp on the stock ve on the 2871 on pump gas, just make sure to get the larger turbine housing.

If you have more money to spend then hit up the guy in the link i provided in my thread. All in all you would be looking at under 1000 for everything you need, internals, headgasket, and ACL bearings.

Oh trust me I know, haha my setup right now was 240ish before a 100 shot, not much could keep up.

We are building a 500ish wheel b6 A4 right now, so I figured i'd stay in the game and up mine a little bit, that and the b14 got wrecked, so i have to do something with the ve

You can boost the de with the 2871r and get 350 easily as long as you go external gate and e85 and be plenty safe. My brother had a t25 external gate on a stock ve and put down 330 on pump conservative tuned. An external wastegate will make life much easier believe me.

Just to put emphasis on how kuch of difference e85 and external gate make. My VE G20 put down 288 on a stock t25 stck ve 13psi on pump. My buddies DE put down 340+ on a similar t25 setup, on difference was e85 and external gate.

I currently have a DE block with a VE and is working beautifully even though Im still rocking a craptistic fleabay turbo.

Either option would be fine. But id boost the de, external gate minimum and you will get what you want. With the money saved get yourself a real good tuner which is the most important thing in a setup besides a car being put together properly imho.

one of my friends just finished his budget vet setup car is 100%stock ve with a set of sr16ve non n1 cams a stock gti-r t28 setup, nismo 740cc injectors , marsh tune at 15psi 93octane pump gas the car made 288 whp and the car is a litte monster. With a meth kit and 18psi i think the car will be over 300whp and is his daily and super reliable.
