I'll search around some more, not too interested in e85 yet, might consider it, but then I have to work with JWT on a tune, and worry about SS fuel lines...that will match in price right there.

Machining the DET pistons and freshening up the DET bottom end sounds like a good idea, I would just do it to the VE, but I've yet to see one last on a "solid" tune.

Not sure what you mean by saying "I've yet to see one last on a "solid" tune." Are you talking about a stock ve boosted? They can and will last when they are tuned correctly. The det pistons in the ve block will net you a little more safety on the tune and will be fine with stock ve cams without machining.

well idk where you have been for the past year

boosting the stock ve's is the way to go and if your scared use methanol injection for added safety.

If I was shooting for 250ish (which I already have, I would boost the VE as is)

I'm thinking of building the DET bottom end, but not too sure yet. Want some more idea's

this is also false anything can be reliable if done correctly and you stay off the boost controller.

once again getting into the 400hp category is a whole new ball game and reliability slowly starts going downwards

Ok,

Depending on what cams you run you can do one of two things.

If your on stock ve cams you can use the det internals and slap them in the VE block and go, get you a vet headgasket and put the studs into the ve block.

Or you can get internals, if you look at my build thread, a couple pages back I posted the link to poor-boys-parts on ebay that I get all my piston and rod combos for. He doesnt carry the VE specific pistons but can get them. Or you can order the pistons from another seller and the rods from a different seller. Simple as that. Poor boys parts would give you the best all around deal. Probably around 740 shipped for an eagle rod CP VE pistons. Pistons will take 3-4 weeks to come in from what he told me.

Definitely go with the VE block, Much easier than drilling and capping the ve head, use all the ve components except for the bottom end. If your det crank is in good condition, swap the 8CW crank in along with the girdle and main bolts as long as you have a set of DE oil pans to put on there. I dont believe your DET pans will fit the VE. ACL bearings all around and good to go. If you dont have de pans laying around then just keep the 4CW crank in and ve pans.

Ashton might want to read this....

All in all I want to spend maybe 600 and get to my power goal

So if 600 is the case, either swap the det internals and the studs with a new headgasket or boost the stock ve. You don't have many other options with the budget listed.

Yea thats where im a little stuck...

Ashton I found a manley rod setup with det JE pistons for 800 that I was thinking about jumping on, but don't know if they will clear the cams.

If I can get a solid bottom end for under 1000 ill go for it. Just can't decide on my options quite yet...

And to the others saying I've missed builds, its true I haven't been on nearly as much as I used to, I've seen the 2.4 builds but not too many VE-T's. Ill keep digging....

Ashton, best advice for under a grand including machine work if needed.

Cams for my power goal?
Injector size?
