VVL & RWD trans
So i recently picked up a Datsun pick up and i want to do a nice swap and the whole converting a rwd sr to fit a vvl head seems like a lot i was wondering if a rwd trans fits on a vvl block. i don't care about the distributor issues i can cut a hole in the firewall any ideas guys?

The RWD SR20 transmission does not mate to the FWD blocks. That's why everyone does the head swap. I'm unaware of any RWD transmission that mates directly to the FWD SR20 blocks.

what tranny do you have now?

you could probably consider a bell housing swap, but quite frankly i would use a sr20de rwd block and a vvl

Wait.... I thought the reason they did the head swaps was because none of the accessories worked correctly... and the whole issue with the CAS/distributor/motor mount position/etc. Why wouldn't the RWD trans mate to the FWD block? Do you know this for a fact? I'd be surprised if it didn't... The FWD VQ mates to the RWD VQ trans. Not saying you are wrong, but would like that to be proven fact.

mounting points for what? The trans? I find it hard to believe the trans mounting points are different. I don't like false information so can someone confirm this?

Most of the motor mount bolt holes on the RWD are present on the FWD ( not AWD) block.
Most of the Bellhousing bolts line up.
FWD distributor will not clear the firewall.
RWD S14 block/head has extra oil hole where FWD does not.

Basically you would have to cut out the starter mount on the FWD block, weld another tab for another bolt, then it would all pretty much fit. I am not 100% sure on the oil pan fitment though
