Thread: 5.0 Final Drive interest

You will love it. The gears will go by so quick. We needed something like this for a long time now. I am tired of winding 3rd gear out through the traps.

Would the housing need to be shaved for a 5.0?

With slicks you'll be fine. If I can launch hard @6k and hook with 210wtq on the 4.785 you will be just fine....

yes it would sean, i looked into this option before the getting the 4.7 from mfactory and from what i heard the boxes are weak enough as it is... custom gearkits are the only option for these gearboxes, the 4.7 aint bad but is not ideal

What are you guys talking about shaving? I didn't shave anything with the 4.785

I just remembered reading somewhere ages ago that going larger than a 4.785 the housing may need to be shaved so I said I would ask if that was true.

you have to shave the box if you go for a 5.0 fd coz if clearance issues, i enquired about getting some made for the vlsd boxes and was told by the person who makes them for the none vlsd boxes that shaving would be required
