Thread: dropped a valve in 3 diff motors what am i doing wrong PLEASE HELP

i had a donor motor with valve damage and then i fixed it put n1 cams with dual v/r with timing marks lined up top and bottom with sr20ve timing specs and after being on for about 20 (no hard reving) it bent a valve but i cranked good and the car was on timing with the light what did i do wrong please help

i bought another motor and put the 1 cams again with stock s/r and after the car being on about the same time 20MIN it bent a valve and broke a guide (no hard reving)i was breaking in the cam what did i do wrong please help

wow... are those pistons notched for oversized valves? Might want to check and make sure the notches have a larger diameter than the valve and are for SR20VEs.

yes they are i made the order thro greg and i paid extra for the piston notching for oversize valves

When you installed the N1 cams did you spin the motor by hand 1st? or did you just put the chain back on and button it up and fire it up?

maybe you cam timing is out....ie skipped a tooth and this simple problem is cause big problems

sounds heat related to me. once the motor heats up the tolerances change. it might be so close at cold temps that once it warms up it expands just enough to hit the valve. did you clay the motor?
