E60 MAF Wires
I guess this is not really VE specific but it is for my VE swap so it does apply. I know alot of the VE guys are using E60 MAF's so some of you might be able to help.

I am going to install an E60 MAF but I don't have the proper pigtail. I also have 2 other pigtails that fit the Maf plug but I don't know what they are from. I understand from reading Miko's 'MAF for dummies' thread that the centre wire/pin is always negative/ground. Beyond that though, I do not want to guess. Here is a pic of the pigtail. It does have two wires sectioned off in an orange cover and with shielding under the wire cover. The remaining wire is by itself and is thicker so I could assume it is for a 12v source but we know what they say about people that assume.

What could really help me out is if somebody could look at their MAF and tell me what order the pigtail wires are in with the MAF pointing the same way as in my picture (mesh screen to the left and flow arrow pointing to the right) or the other way as long as you let me know. Or if somebody knows which one of the three pins is which on the MAF itself....Positive, negative/ground, read.

My best guess/assumption would be that the orange is ground, the white is read and the seperate larger black w/ white stripe is 12v power but not knowing where this pigtail is from makes me unsure.

Any help would be awesome as this is holding up installing my RT ECU.

Thanks so much!

Let me make this simple!!
LOL. Maybe I give too much info. some times. I know that on the E60 pigtail:

Red = Positive
Black = Negative
White = 5v Read

If I knew the order of the wires I would then be able to proceed!

^ Thanks Blue!! I was actually just trying to download the R33 and the J30 FSM's as they use the same MAFs. It works out perfectly with my pigtail as well, as the left pin according to your diagram is for 12V and the left wire on my pigtail is the thicker wire. Awesome.

It's a lot easier than the color of wires though. You had it solved:

*Thick wire by itself = 12V
*Wrapped center wire = Ground
*The other wrapped wire = 5V signal

Ya I guess my assumption was correct. But, without knowing where the pigtail is from I couldn't guarantee that the MAF pins matched the pigtail. For all I knew the correct E60 pigtail could of had the 12v and 5v read wires on the opposite side. That was my concern. The ground wire was not an issue of course. But all worked out though!

Hopefully I can now complete "Operation Calum" ASAP!
