Thread: VE throttle body screws coming loose.

It happens because the cars get old and we beat the snot out of them in ways not intended by the manufacturer.

It could be a lot of things but maybe the butterfly expands more than the screws once the car gets hot.

It may happen more on VEs that I would agree with subjectively and most of them lived very pedestrian lives in CVT vehicles with relatively low demands. Also Nissan was in terrible financial trouble before Rennault bought them in the late 90s maybe some things got overlooked in the transition.... we certainly know they didn't want to play in the high output 4cyl market anymore.

I wonder if anyone has had this happen with a N1 TB.

Maybe it depends on the year VE? Loose butterfly screws was common on 02-03 SpecV's.

Yeah Sealti96 just had his n1 throttle body screw get sucked in, destroyed the plug but luckily no other damage.

Seems to be mainly the standard ve throttle bodies that do this. Again i hadnt heard much about this until the last couple years and especially within the last 6-12 months there has been many many instances of it happening.

Thats why this thread should be a sticky or maybe combined in with the VE install how to as its seeming like a pretty common occurence.

happened to me late last year

luckily it just cost me a hg and labour

mine did that. got lodged in the valve had to get the valve and get the valve seat re done. not so much fun, upgraded with n1's valve springs and all new valves after that. then managed to break a valve spring. my ve was out to get me. red threadlock is a must.

same here back in 06 I think it was. Told people to thread lock those suckers.

Mine were on so tight I had a hard time getting them out so I could put loctite on them. Most of the time when things like this happens its due to vibration. Also I would think the resonate frequency is just right when vvl hits that over time the screws back out.

It's to do with oil that gets onto the butterfly. All my previous cars had been fine. But when I got the n1 and checked them they came out real easy, the threads had oil on them.... coupled with vibrations they just work their way out. Catchcan is a must.
