It happens because the cars get old and we beat the snot out of them in ways not intended by the manufacturer.
It could be a lot of things but maybe the butterfly expands more than the screws once the car gets hot.
It may happen more on VEs that I would agree with subjectively and most of them lived very pedestrian lives in CVT vehicles with relatively low demands. Also Nissan was in terrible financial trouble before Rennault bought them in the late 90s maybe some things got overlooked in the transition.... we certainly know they didn't want to play in the high output 4cyl market anymore.
