No I didnt resurface the head cause I check it and was still straight as it can be. Why is it important to resurface the head when remove, is it to acheive a certain finish or straightness to seal? If I need to resuface the head every time like some guys suggested the I woulb have remove so much material that the head wont be usable by now. This particular head has been on and off 4-5 times already.

I had a few HG issues but they disappeared once I had the block and head resurfaced and used a new HG (cometic BTW).

They remove so little material that it's almost negligable. Something like a few 100's of a mm. But you need that glass like / mirror finish in order for the MLS gaskets to seal properly it seems. Ask the machine shop to use their finest wheel.

If I were you I'd give that a go with a new cometic HG. It's worth the risk. If it works out great. If it doesn't then you're only down about $150 or so, vs ditching the entire motor when it doens't seem that the sleeve has in fact dropped.

So when you were having issues with hg did you check to see if both were straight and within the limit before you resurface?

1st time it blew and I put a new gasket without resurfacing. Then it blew again and subsequently overheated, so the head warped a little. Resurfaced with a new gasket again and then it was fine.

Don't think its about the flatness so much as the smooth finish working better with the cometic it seems.

You got plenty of material on the head. Remember the N1 and Autech DE heads both were skimmed from the factory, and they took more than 1mm/.040" off.

Each pass of the resurfacer only takes off .005" and cost $50. So do the math, you can resurface 8 times(.040"/.005") before it is a concern.

you reuse the gasket, dont have the head machined an then wonder why you have problems.

Not the first time buddy I only reuse head gasket the second. But if you experts are telling me I need to resurface head for finish ill do that the next time. Its funny people with no first hand experience know more than those who are actually try things out. I wasnt gonna throw couple hundreds of dollars down the drain cause sleeves was still questionable to me. Also just cause I dont post everything I do and all the problem is dealing with doesnt mean I not trying to do it the correct way.

well resurfacing the head is common sense.. and as far as reusing the mazworx gasket look how many people have had issues when doing that.

i hope you get it figured out man.

Yes if its require to seal a cometic then yes I have yet to try resurfacing the head. I used that head with my 2.0 build twice without resurfacing and reused the oem metal hg and it sealed perfect therefore I assume the same for the cometic.

For me it was common sense for flatness didnt know it was for finish.
