Yeah measure it with some feeler gauges. .001 is hardly even feelable. My buddies sleeved dropped and they were about .014 lower than the deck, this was with a mazworx gasket and it still held up until they dropped down that low.

Get a feeler gauge on there until its flat with the deck and see how much.

Also again check there the firing ring was sealing around the cylinders and see if you have any irregularity around the cylinders indicating it wasnt sitting straight. You should have a black mark where the firing ring was sealing at.

Whats weird is you were getting coolant into the oil. That makes me thing the bottom of the sleeve may not have been sealed correctly and tightly fitted. Again there is a lot of precision involved in installing the sleeves.

When my buddies sleeves dropped he was not getting any coolant into the oil, the machine shop used a loctite sealant on the bottom of the sleeves like your supposed to as per the installation instructions and measurements paperwork.

Again its a who knows kinda thing.

Ashton my smallest feeler guage read .001" and I put it over the sleeves and I can feel that its higher then the deck.

I think the VE ones may be slightly longer but its a head height not a block issue. Your sleeves should be fine then. Need to find out where you were putting coolant into the block though. If the gasket sealing looked good then its kinda up in the air.

You will probably have to refit the head and pressure test the coolant side to see where the coolant is leaking from. If it is leaking from the base of the sleeve you should be able to see easily enough.

I was referring to the cam gear in relation to the timing chain making a big difference. I.E. One tooth off making a big difference.

I now think that you guys are talking about cam gear settings and adjustments not yielding any significant gains.

I do not believe that was or is the issue, I thought he was talking about it in general.

I think .001" is too small to matter. Most scratches are deeper than .001". You would need to use a machinist straight edge or a deck height gauge like this one: Agape Racing - Deck Height/Piston Protrusion Gage to get a good measurement.

I know you mentioned the head was used. Was it resurfaced before the final assembly?
