Sorry to derail it but its kinda relavent. I just want a plain and simple answer without making a new thread.

How much of gain can is there on a properly shimmed 184c motor vs one that has not been shimmed yet. I knew there was something I had to buy.

Its not really just a matter of power that is the concern unless for whatever reason the cams are tight up against the rockers when putting them in a factory untouched motor without shimming but i dont think thats the case. If thats the case then yeah it could be leaving a valve slightly open allowing compression loss but I think the majority of the issue is they are too loose and uneven across the board. In this case you will lose a little bit of valve lift but only by how much the shim is out of spec. So probably less than .001. Again its not power related issue its more of breaking a rocker arm at high rpms or possibly tossing a shim and then even worse have the rocker come down on top of the retainer and end up dropping a valve. Our rockers are fixed solid rockers so the valve lash needs to be even across the rocker to avoid breaking the rocker and so on.

Also probably would have very noisy valvetrain.

The guys that have installed the 184c cams can chime in on whether they were too loose or too tight but im gonna say on the loose side.

When instaling the 184c's I have seen both extremes (tight and loose).

It always came down to how the valve job was done.

Yeah, If you have a good machine shop they will usually get the valve height back to the original factory height if installing aftermarket valves, in a DE its not quite as important as the VE to get it as close as possible. If not then reshimming is always required.

But if your doing a seat cleanup w/ stock valves or adjusting valve grind angles and so on all of which require grinding of the seats and removing material. So almost always your going to have a higher valve height than factory and this will lead to too tight of clearances on the cams and again shimming definitely required.

Maybe later down the road we will get a set of aftermarket rocker arms like those found in the f20 and k20 motor with independant arms and capability to adjust valve lash. Hell even a set with just the ability to adjust valve lash would be nice and make things much easier. One part that nissan failed on with the VE motors, lol.

Not necessarily speaking power, I mean ever as far as drivability. I have some areas of where the car feels funny. Kind of hard to explain without actually being in the car and seeing/feeling for yourself. I guess I know what I'll be ordering now. Fucking sentras. Lol.

WOT feels great. I've been spinning it to 9-9500. You know how I was J when I broke the rocker arm that night. I better get on it lol.

Thay true a valve job will dictate how deep they sit in the seats, changing the shim.

Well got the head off and sleeves feels a hair lower(.001" at most if that) then the deck. Is that enough to get coolant into the oil? Or is it leaking from somewhere else?

Gasket look fine to me.
