No doubt road racing but the most stress on an engine. I think only Derm has engines that were sleeved and road raced, but I am not sure.

The whole ideal with 88mm is no sleeve, just a 88mm head gasket, some high C/R pistons and go!

A "long rod" engine reduces the side load on the piston/cylinder wall interface which in turn would reduce the load on the sleeve...not to mention the piston has hardly any skirt on it....therefore if anything, a long road motor would be safer at 88mm than a "short" or stock rod...

Darton guarantees their work for up to a year I think. I wonder if their machining process has any key differences versus that of taking it to a regular ol machine shop. Alot of machine shops charge alot to do sleeves...Some up to $1000. Darton does it for half of that....so either they have become very efficient in the process or they know something most others dont?

well my block was done by Darton and it leaked, Now that was done many years ago and they did change the process.

Your right, I remember you telling me this

Me and jun just spoke, were gonna have the machine shop he uses do the sleeve and machining.

He already did my 90 mill head and some machining on my past two blocks

Sorrt for off topic

Like jose said, the block is really only as good as the machine shop who does it.

Good thread.... keep it going. At least we know 87.5mm is very doable, 88 according to Derm has been done successfully. No sleeves, good power. I'm in.

Oh btw for the sake of clearing up:
Positive Pressure = Boost
Negative Pressure = Vacuum

No Positive Pressure = Naturally Aspirated

right...so its either pressure or vacuum no need to assign polarity LOL

No pressure would suggest a value of 0 psi..... We live in an atmosphere where pressure is a constant 14.5 psi or so whether you like it or not

The 87mm cometic VE gasket as is and even the VET gasket punched out to 88mm will seal.

These gaskets do not have the VVL oil hole.

Cometic can make the gasket.

For one build we are using the VET gasket bored to 88mm and the other will use the Cometic 0.9 VVL 87mm gasket.

id like to hear more details about what youve posted. part numbers and prices.

do you feel the cometic 88mm is up to par. the one that was linked is for a det and doesnt have the oil hole, do they make a 88mm ve version ? or are you better off with a bored out vet gasket ? metal oem vet gasket comes 87mm right so just bore it out 1mm ? how complicated is that ?
