Nissan takes land speed record at Bonneville
Yesterday Papakura engine guru Reg Cook set the 2.0 litre and under standard production record on the famed salt flats at Bonneville posting 168MPH on his first run, 12MPH faster than the current record of 158MPH this was then backed up the very next morning with a 171Mph
the car, a Nissan NX Coupe.
Not bad for an old boy ;D
the gearbox is currently being removed to allow for higher gear ratios and therefore hopefully more speed. he is also competing in the modified class as well,
will try to keep you all posted on updates

Why would they delete the VVL and run roller rockers?

^^^ Probably for the same reason most "race" built engines "delete" it in the first place (and I am going to guess RR have less rotating friction).

VTEC/VVL/etc is basically there for fuel economy and performance. If you are in the upper ranges all the time, there is no need to worry about varying cam profiles, lift, etc as this just adds to drag on the system, complexity, etc.

Neat!!
