Took the words right off of my page. I have always wanted to do a custom split intake manifold with 2 pipes, each feeding 2 cylinders. I have no idea if it would make good power, but it is something I have always wanted to try..

Are you kidding me... Ever felt the TQ difference between a 1.6L honda SOHC and a 1.6L Toyota. The difference is the manifold design. Lots of low end, no top end for Toyotas. Longer runners in the intake is always more TQ on any engine.

Ashton, I just junked an entire engine that had manifold, got $47 for it as scrap.

Yeah they make wild power. My point is that exactly they do not focus on power...

yeah those were definitely long runner manifolds and the runners were fairly small in size. Match up the sizing to a 2.0-2.4L and shorten them and have a very nice flowing full merge collector should definitely flow well. It would definitely be something interesting to test out.

This is my thinking too. With the right diameter and shorter lenghts and a large Throttle body, this would almost act like ITB's mixed with an intake pipe and filter. I can definitely see this manifold having a lot of airspeed.

Having said that, I'm probably going to do a conventional plenum style manifold for my car, but only cause I don't have a spare VE bottom runner manifold to cut up for the injector bosses and head->manifold flange. If I can get one of those cheaply to use then we don't mind testing this idea out.

The idea about using a 4-1 collector for intake use is to create a venturi type flow that accelerates the air coming through the throttle body for the next cylinders intake stroke to take advantage of just how a proper 4-1 collector does on the exhaust. The same affect happens in a normal plenum type manifold but there is more turbulence. Just exactly why plenum manifolds properly designed have made more power than ITB's. With ITB's you dont get that venturi effect so you have no incoming air flowing for the next cylinder to take advantage of.

Again I think a proper design of a header style intake manifold could really make some power using a 4-1 collector. I think it would really be worth building and testing out.

What about the ford duratec Godspeed has a manifold for it looks pretty good.
