^^^Thats what im talking about LERKZONE center mount or bust even if i got to massage the firewall.

Thats what i said before. Take a manifold like that one or rbc with the center mount and cut the flange off, flip the manifold over so the throttle body points upward and weld to some ve runners and port it out so its nice and smooth and that baby would probaly make some good power and like I said with the curve of the runners of the k series motor manifolds it will take advantage of our limited space and actually curve upwards instead of downwards when flipped upside down. The runners should line up close to the ve ones, close enough that it shouldnt require too much work to make it fit nicely and be smooth. Then you could make a nice hood scoop to draw air right into the throttle body.

Liking all the ideas guys. Keep 'em coming.

Wondering how many hp a centre mount would be worth over a well designed side mount TB....

Also, wondering about the concept of an intake "header". Something along the lines of a large, say 100mm intake pipe and 70mm? TB, which then goes from 1-2-4 into the ports. Should have very good velocity but I guess the trick would be to ensure there's always enough volume of air for each cylinder.

Like the toyota engine found in the late 90 early 00 corollas that have the header style intake manifold but its a 1-4 design but looks crazy. Only thing with that is it would be difficult to keep it equal length and you would need some very large tubing to allow a proper air flow. But I could see that working. Im surprised nobody has tried to make one in the honda scene yet

Ashton if you find some pics or the engine referred to pls post it up. Space is always an issue but I think something like that with even two stock SR20 TB's feeding 2 cylinders each would be sick. Almost like the best of both worlds from a plenum and ITB's.

came on the 98-02 corolla and chevy prism 1zz engine.

Not a very smooth collector but I think something with a very nice smooth large 3" collector with a Q45 throttle body, 2 to 2 1/8" diameter tubing bent properly and smoothly, Shorten the runner length to about to about 8-10" or so and it would be interesting to test. Hardest part would be making it as close to equal length as possible as that would more than likely be the most important part of making it work well. I wouldnt see why it wouldnt flow really well with a really nice collector like you see on these 4-1 headers. Another one is finding an intake manifold flange in SS If someone took a machine shop an intake manifold flange im sure one could be cut from steel pretty easily. Definitely would use a thermoblock spacer between the head and intake though as the steel will get hot and should definitely be ceramic coated to help with keeping it cool.

I think best bets would be to have it made out of aluminum tubing and have an aluminum collector made. Would be very interesting to see.

^^^ that's pretty interesting. It doesn't look "too" hard to fabricate actually.

My mum used to drive this Mazda 1.6 16v at one stage, and it had a fairly similar manifold. Although cast aluminium instead of tubular. It was pretty peppy for a 1.6 and liked high rpm. CAn't find any good pics online, but this one should give you and idea. The runners start almost immediately after the TB:

I saw manifolds like this before. I wonder how they work as they dont have regular plenum...

There may be something to this. But remember all the motors your seeing these manifolds on are small motors focused more on economy and drivability over actual power. Not saying they wont work well. But there are a lot of companies that do a ton of r&d and I'm sure if these worked better they would have incorporated the design. But I'm always up for new things...
