yes i think those were the gti-r blocks too. do you know about the wrist pin size question though? i havent dealt with any aftermarket ve pistons yet. i would possibly even like to do a 14:1+ e85 motor with stock rods. if its possible.
Yeah they have an off the shelf ve 88mm 12.5:1 piston now so i think they used to be around 600 and now you can get them for about $540 for a set of ve specific pistons with valve reliefs and so on. I would not use a cometic headgasket unless you want problems. Get a mazworx gasket. Bearings from ACL for both the standard race main bearings w/Thrust washer and Rod bearings non coated are about 80 shipped for all. Use stock rods, no need to go big and get aftermarket rods.
You can do a lot of the head cleanup yourself. Even just something as simple as smoothening out the ports a bit and thinning out the divider some and port matching can do wonders on an n/a build and you can do it yourself with a drill and porting bit. Match the ports to the gaskets the way they sit on the head. Pretty easy to do and it makes a difference.

10.5 @ 149.2mph to date I believe the fastest trap speed SE-R, Much more to come with some changes!
Eh more like about 1500, lol. We are just stating to save some money up and go for more power. Plain and simple. Unless something is wrong with your current motor and you want to rebuild it and have 1k to spend then Id say do what you need to do to stay within your budget. If nothing is wrong with it though. Save up a little more and go bigger and still stay within a reasonable price to make good power. 25-30whp to me is well worth 1500 or so.

Exactly. Once you dig into the bottom end, you become more susceptible to problems. Maximize the power that can be made with what you have, then when that's not enough you can crack open the block. A tune alone will change the entire feel of the car. I highly recommend it, especially for NA.
