id save up a bit more before cracking open the bottom end. a g will take apart the motor get you pistons, get a you bore and hone, new bearing etc etc. your only gonna gain 10whp max on a stock bore with a higher compression piston.

save a few grand.

do a piston, lighten and balance the crank and some head work. do it all at once while your there.

I agree. If your gonna go to the point of ripping apart the motor its pointless to not at least bore it out. Id go as big as you can go if your looking for more power. Save about $1500 and you can do

88mm bore and hone
88mm 12.5:1 cp pistons
Mazworx ve headgasket
New bearings
Some slight head cleanup and portmatching

You will gain a good 25-30whp or more going this route over staying with the stock bore and bumping compression. I just dont see the point in just putting some high compression pistons in there and maybe some headwork to get a whole 10whp or so. Even going that route your still looking at spending about $600 to do so on some 16ve pistons (used) New oem rings, bearings, headgasket, and headwork. Net you 13:1 compression but still on stock bore.

If your gonna take the time to open her up might as well go as big as you can without sleeving the motor.

1500 is not going to do that.

750 for pistons.
250 for head gasket.
new bearings is what like 200 total.

theres no money left to clean up the head.

but you are close.

like i said save up more.

OR you can make your car more driveable and just good header / tune / cams type of deal like c0de said. A little tuning goes a long way.

550 for pistons, and 130 for HG. Shop smart. (:
But your point that things always cost more than you intend is valid.

do the aftermarket pistons have the same pin size as the stock ones? ive been debating doing a 13:1 86mm or a 12.5+ 88mm build and using the stock rods. are there dyno sheets on 88mm vs 86mm builds around somewhere?

Im sorry im thinking custom pistons.

Sir, no one has done a 88mm yet. Only the btcc cars were 88mm on stock sleeves, they were gtir blocks iirc.
