VVL + water issue
Hi guys,

Just did a built motor with cp pistons, 90mm bore, headwork, cams the works. Slight concern I've noticed while running in the motor is that water level in the water resevoir for the radiator will raise about 1/4 inch when the car is hot, and then suck back down (presumably into the radiator/motor) when the car cools down.

I've only revved it to about 5k rpm so far. Don't want to run it any harder until I know this is not an issue. I don't see any evidence of a blown gasket or anything, and no compression in the radiator.

Running a Nismo thermostat and a 300zx cap on a stock radiator. Any ideas? BTW it's a B13 platform with sr20ve.

It's normal. The fluid expands with heat so is pushed into the reservoir and contracts once it's cooled again.

Thanks Moles.

It's just that I've never noticed this before the motor was built. And I don't think I've seen this on any other SR powered cars I've owned in the past. Hence the concern.

normal.... pressure/temp relative so one temp goes up so will the pressure so it will carry over to the res. then one the motor starts to cool the pressure will fall n the fluid will be pulled back into the rad. but just continue to watch it as in a new build its vital to be observant

water level in my car raises a bit from time to time

if after revving or a hard drive, there is bubbling in the bottle, then you have to be concerned

peace
