Thread: Weird noise when engine shut down.

Like the title states my car is making a weird noise during shut down, and also during start up when the motor is close to running temp.

It sounds like a old hydrolic lift. (Pressurized high pitch noise). The noise goes from loud to soft, and lasts about 4 seconds on shut down, and 2 seconds on start up. It sounds like it is coming from the block.

Also if i go to check my oil before this noise happens, when i pull out my dipstick it is dry and a puff noise is made when i pull it out. When i stick it back in oil appears on the stick fine.

Is it my oil pump?

Sounds like you're pressurising the crank case so that would mean your PCV system is blocked / not working as one possibility. This could be caused by a lot of blow by (leaking compression) on a cylinder.

Ill check that out. Are the PCV valves the same in a DE as a VE? Thanks
