Thread: Need some help

So I got a cel yesterday I was driving and then check engine light came.on . the car comes on the radiator fans are coming on and it lost like half power....still drives, but like sluggish as hell....amd it now idle at 1400..... I've never had a problem with this car is always pulls hard, I'm wondering maybe if it's the chips in the ecu or some wires shorted

Kind of lost here,.....I was going real slow, like idleing in 5th them went to 4th it started bucking then the check engine lite came on.

Every time the car is turned on, radiator fans comes on too.....it's also has a differnt smell to it....like exhaust

What could set of the cel? It has a calum basic ecu....will turning the set screw pull the codes same as an oem ecu? Any one best me have a consult thing?

You should be able to turn the screw and retrieve codes. Check those and get back to us!

my guess: ecu isn't seeing temp or high temp be it because of the sensor or wiring or whatever and turns on fans to be safe as well as switches maps

ecu wont pull codes...tried other set of chips , same crap....wont pull coeds either


red just stays lit no blinks ,nothing....

It sounds like the ecu itself could have shorted out. Is your coolant temp sensor plugged in? I am leaning towards the ecu being bad though. The chips are in the proper way, right? Little notch facing the clip that holds them in place.

chips are in right....yeah i looked at the cts too...they all plugged in...

ecu also has alot of "new" wires running right at the harness...one it a griound to manfiold and another goes to a knock sensor thats wrapped up in like a sock or some shit....

i mean shouldnt the calum basic be able to still retreive codes? any relays or fuses i should also check?

when i drive it, it smells diffrent....like a fresh burnt match....maybe running rich?

May be your ecu is done for. Fix those wires and see if you can grab a junkyard one
