Amsoil is some of the best money can buy, along with the Motul fluids. Personally I used to use Mobil1 in my Z, but now I run a Castrol synthetic dubbed "european formula" its a 0w30. Loved it so much in my Z I run it in the SE-R too. The RP is great for dyno numbers, but actually does little as far as protecting your engine.

On the Z forums we have a motorsports team that has tested several of the "top name" oils and the resulting status at every oil change. They've kept things very consistent, sending it off at roughly the same mileage to the same processing facility.

Interesting topic. I have been running mobil 1 in all my cars. My DE had 85k miles and looked brand new everywhere. Not even a tinge of orange or yellow. New. The bearings showed no wear. at all. barely any scuffing. I have a lot of faith in the mobil because I beat the crap out of that DE for a long long time.

Mobil1 was a very good product for a very long time. In the last few years they lost a lawsuit against another motor oil manufacturer for false advertising under the synthetic branding. Since the loss of that case mobil1 has since switched formula's and more complaint have risen.

I'll see if I can dig up the topic, but it was a few years back.

Its still a synthetic, but it is a group 3 synthetic (previously was a group 4). Still a somewhat decent oil, but my money is better spent on another synthetic oil.

been using the extended performance 5w30 in the wife's car. I do about 10k miles between changes. car has 120k miles. no sludge. perfect compression. really good for a ga16 motor. most I see are all sludged up.

I'll be running Royal Purple 10-30 Synthetic in the motor and Redline Shockproof in the tranny. At $7-9 a quart for the fluids named above though, it's expensive as hell!......but well worth it, IMO.

redline shock proof actually kills our trannies, not the correct type of oil and will eat the syncros. get MT-90. i use castrol syntec, rated in the top 5 synthetic oils, not insainly expensive, good stuff.

Pennzoil Platinum was 1/2 off at the local Autozone so I'm going to give it a shot,

P.S. What other options besides MT90 do we have for really good gear oil?
