SR20VE - Smelling Fuel
Right, for the past few weeks, we have been smelling fuel when the car has been at low speed and idle. Also sometimes when we start the car it sounds like a tractor. and i am also convinced that sometimes when throttled at bottom end speed the engine is detonating...but cant be sure.

I took off the oil cap and there is a strong smell of fuel in there.

For a while the Idle on the engine was really high, it was idleing at 1000RPM (on Greddy) and needle was higher. I adjusted the IACV screw and it has brought that back down to 800 RPM.

Engine generally runs fine and pulls okay, although we have had issues in the past with it having no power when the cams open but this hasn't happened in a while.

Any ideas?

We are contemplating doing a complete rebuild over the winter...as the engine history is generally unknown and when the rocker cover gasket was off last time there was like bits of grit in the oil. So i am wondering a complete stripdown and rebuild is the answer.
