Supetech Springs with Stock Retainers?
Sorry fellows, i know there are a few threads on valve springs (i started one as well) but i need this as a topic so i can get quick response

is there anyone using supertech valve springs with STOCK retainers?

the site i wanna buy the springs from states that the valve springs MUST be sued with the Supetech retainers.

also heard the top of the springs may be a bit different from stock hence the need for THEIR retainers

thread can be deleted after i get my answers

thanks

I used the stock retainer. The spring is a little bit bigger than it but it works.

Didn't take any pics since there isn't much to look at. I got my springs from Mazworxs. About the only pics I have of them are these when I got them.

Or this pic but nothing top down looking at them.

I'll send you a link in a pm.

I have been recently investigating the same question and would like an answer specifically relating to this question. And please do not delete after you get your answer, as that defeats the purpose of the forums, as people should be searching for this thread in the future for answers to this same question.

Non specific to supertech, my readings have indicated that (and I am by no means a engine builder specialist etc), if you intend on big revs (for example 9k rpm), high lift/wild cams, then it would be a good idea to do retainers. I do understand why you would want to skimp (and as soon as one uses the word skimp, I'm sure someone will chime in after and say, don't skimp on your engine build), as the retainers are 1.5x the price of the springs alone.

Oh and FYI, I have both the supertech springs and retainers in. I guess it just makes you "think" it's bullet proof!

Well I have been to 9k a lot and so have my friends and were all on the stock retainers. No problems so far. The money was spent else where .

I'm supposed to put the Frank 4's back in since I broke in the motor but I'm just way too lazy and sold my cam gears a while back lol.

Cheers. Could you by chance shed any light on the specs of Franklin 4's as I have had trouble when searching to find the specs. Obviously the high cam lift would be most relevant to this thread.
