Thread: Stock VE ECU, does it ground VVL solenoid directly, or use a relay?

I've been triggering VVL solenoids directly with my MSD 8969 (and with an LED inline) without any issue, but a relay seems to make sense. I wondered if the stock VE ECU grounds the solenoids directly or via a relay.

Grounds directly through the switching mosfet.

Cool, so that's why JWT can program the ECU for the trigger. Guess I won't sweat the 8969 triggering directly.

Correct.. They have it already programmed in their ECUs. All you will have to do now is wire in the VVL Solenoids, directly into the ECU..

Hey, so you have a JWT ECU thats going to run your VVL??

JWT ECU controling the VVL is a waste.

Unless you know the actual switch over point then it will not be right no mater what they put it at.


Cams, exhaust, pullys, header and intake all change the switchover point of the cams.

Yea, I didn't have JWT program for the solenoids. Been using a single 8969 for 4 years now. Need to smooth out the maps down low before bothering with a staggered intake/exhaust setup. Nistune?

Dang this VE still pulls hard 4 years later, even with some valve buildup. Thanks Miko!
