Hi MW,
Before you do that, try and establish if you have enough fluid in there. This is done while the engine is running, very important! If there is not enough fluid in there, the tranny would not operate properly. Secondly pull the tranny oil pan off. Make sure there is no debris blocking the oil pick-up which will result in the pump not getting enough oil. A lot of times with auto's they tend to generate some debris from various components and clog the filter screen. If so, remove all of the junk, clean the screen and close it all up. When filling the tranny, make sure you manually select all the gears while filling till you get to the full mark. If all of this fails, follow the steps below.
Once the car is up in the air, remove the inspection plate at the bottom of the gearbox where the gearbox and engine meets.
Look for about 6 bolts that bolt the flex plate to the torque converter. You have to remove those bolts by turning the engine bit by bit.
Remove all wiring and cables that is attached to the tranny and the rest would be like you remove a manual tranny except in this case you would have to remove the transfer case first before the tranny will come out.
