Ive just looked thru all the gt x-trails for sale here in NZ, there is not one that has any reference to them being a CVT, they are all listed as being automatics. The shifters look same as normal automatic shifters.

I always assumed they were cvt, but never actually looked.

I would never have bought one (except to pull the engine ) given i thought they had CVT trans and if they died the car would be a writeoff, but a auto is a different story. Most cars listed here are around 12 to 14k NZD.

Note trans computer on the left. No idea if this will help anyone identify if its CVT or not?

Unfortunately the picture above is not to clear, however at the time i am certain the dash gauge on the left had PRND54321.

Hope this helps.

It's an auto, see the round thing around the flex plate(first picture), that's the torque converter.

Autech Thx for the info,
Do you think its wurth my while to use the real nissan ns1 or ns2 oil in the gearbox?
Then second is how much bigger must i make the oil cooler of the gearbox?
Any tips as how i go about to remove the gearbox?

Autech: Where did you get front cut like this and how much?

Btw. Xtrails came with QR20DE/QR25DE and manual 6speed too. Its probably possible to use it with VET...

This is a Nissan CVT tranny, the one in your pic is a 4 speed, electronically controlled transmission.
