Thread: Cold rev is really high.....

So after 3 weeks of being in Wisconsin I finally started the car back up. Now I have a p10 ECU with DE injectors and de MAF for now. But when I started it up... it was revving for about 5 mins @ 3k. Now mind you... it was about 40 degrees out. And it bothers me that its doing this in the cold weather. Should I be alarmed?

I even turned the car off for about 30 seconds and started it for it to do it all over again. After about 5 mins it drops to 2.5K then 2K and then idles at 1K.

I've noticed when it's really cold outside mine will idle kinda high when I start it then in the timeframe of a few minutes work it's way back down to normal rpms. I always figured the engine was just warming up.

3k sounds like something sticking. Could simply be old grease in the throttle cable that's thickened up with the exposure to the colder weather and warmed up once the engine was running.

If it happens again, pop the hood and try moving the throttle closed by hand. that would at least confirm or eliminate a simple mechanical issue.

There is a cold idle valve on the TB that needs to be screwed in.

It has a 8mm nut and allen head screw.

It will drop the cold idle during start up.

There's no leak and nothing is sticking... Wayne. The VE has a cold idle adjustment... its a little piece that has a coolant hose attached to it. There is a small spring loaded stopper that has a 3mm (i think) allen key adjuster and a nut. In japan they are set a little off... when the engine is cold it cracks the throttle body until the engine is warm. It's all mechanical.

When the engine is cold... Undo the nut, tighten (from what I remember) the allen bolt, and start the car... watch the rpms. Mine did this when I got it as well.

I also recently did ve swap on my b13, i accidentally forgot to tighten my tps and n it idle'd at 2,500 even when it got warmed, i adjusted the tps n it went away, now it cold idle's at 2k for 3s n gradually lowers til 900rpms when warm
