Short answer, yes.
The stock VE bottom end was designed to be run as a NA motor. Because of this:
- Pistons have 10.2:1 (I believe) pistons, this is very high compression for a forced induction set up.
- Rods were designed to be as light weight as possible and probably can't reliably handle much if turbo'd.
- Crankshaft was lightened to be a 4cw crank as opposed to the 8cw run in the DET's and DE's.
- Also as BenFenner mentioned, a DET girdle, main caps and bolts, and a crank scraper would be a good idea.
Edit: This is assuming you are only planning on using pump gas and don't plan on running some type of water/methanol injection. Not sure where you are at, but I can only get max 91 octane rating which would be too low alone to avoid detonation with VE pistons.
