So I don't think I saw a definitive answer here...

Stock USDM SR20DE is 9.5:1 compression. It can run on 87 octane (R+M/2) fuel.

Stock JDM SR20VE has 10.3:1 compression. Can I run that engine on 89 octane with 15* base timing? Yeah, it won't save a ton of money on fuel, but if I'm not tracking it, why pay the extra if I don't need it?

Inquiring minds, and all that... - GA

I guess it will all depends of your ECU, I have been runing 15ยบ base timing bins and I could run 89oct just for commuting, if you step on the gas it may be some detonation but that would be fixed thru the timing map, it's all about tuning.

In Mexico we only have 87 and 92 octane, the 92 octane is a POS and I guess is barely a real 89 octane.
