Port Matching SSAC for VE
So today I drove over to Gspec and purchased a new ve stainless ex. mani gasket and some plugs and axle seals. I get home and put the new gasket up to the ssac header and noticed it is quite off a bit. I used a paint marker to mark how much needed to be shaved off and went to work with my die grinder. While doing that I noticed how much the egr bung interferes with diameter of the primary on #4 so I decided to smooth it pretty good and it looks a sh*tload better than it did. The welds of the bung are on the outside and it's really thick so I didn't have to worry about grinding it down and possibly going too close to welds and cracking it. I took a couple pics of how it came out.

Here is the egr bung sticking out about 1/4" blocking air

Now it's gone!

well that was a good to do either way.

if your running a ve you should look into getting a proper header though.

the ssac headers are good for de's, ve's need a much better flowing header.

stratton.

And since I had the die grinder out I duburred all the castings and polished the exhaust ports. Next week i'm doing the intake manifold

Watch out for the metal shavings. Its funny, my ssac lined up perfect. I didn't have to do any porting. Is yours the older version or something?

You might want to check those two ports where the primary bolts to the secondary. When put together mine were of center quite a bit, bad overlapping.

watch out for cracks on those primaries at the head flange where you ground them, may want to weld over them on the outside preemptively

yeah these are the old ones, I just ordered a new set because I took a caliper to measure the collector and was surprised to find out that the outside diameter was only 2", and I have a 3" catback so it's really choked up.

I was careful while grinding and left enough metal before the welds, maybe an 1/8" or so. So that way with the vibrations and heat the welds won't crack.

what i found to be distressing is that the flange for the primary after porting out to 1.75" the secondary flange is only 1.5", so i cut the secondaries behind the flange and bolted both flanges together and match port the secondary flange to the primary, at this point the 1.5" secondaries were useless so i stepped it to 2" w/ a 2"-2.5" slip fit full merge collector, secondaries were 16" and 14"
