Throwing out some ideas 88mm stock stroke w/ nitrous vs. other options
I saw Zeus's thread and was already contemplating this and since I just started a new job and got my tax return back, gotta figure out a plan. I am going to be building the engine before I even buy chassis to install it in. I am confident that the 88mm on stock sleeves will hold up with no issues. What I have in mind since this is a smaller budget build that should put up good numbers is this.
SR20ve engine bored to 88mm
N1 cams with stock springs and retainers(to start) revving to 85-8700 on juice, 9k all motor
Good valve job with some cleanup work on the head, nothing crazy.
20v header w/ custom secondary or 4 to 1 used, which ever is the better deal when I am ready to buy. Maybe even an asp budget if the price is right.
Haven't decided on brand for rods or pistons, but the lightest most cost effective forged rod and custom 88mm 12.5 or 13:1 cr piston. Any reccomendations on the brand of each and the best place to order?
Single fogger 100 wet shot, moving up to 150 once everything is straightened out.
Custom intake manifold but will start with the stock one and 100 shot since that is an easy change while the engine is in the car plus I would like before and after dynos.

Keep in mind that this in no rush as I still haven't purchased the vehicle yet, so I will be scouring the classifieds for deals.

I also considered just going the cheaper easier way of a s4 cammed de with 11:1 forged pistons stock bore, non custom pistons with forged rods.
Running a progressive 200 shot direct port. The de would have a little more headwork with a good valve job also.
Same deal on the header as the other idea, what deal comes along. There are pros and cons to each. The ve would be more fun to drive off the juice but I think they may end up about the same at the strip. This will be a non daily driver of course, that is taken to the strip as much as I can afford.

There are two more options, stock 10:1 de with a progressive 150 wet shot single foger kit and bc3's with s&r's and see how long it holds, much cheaper, quicker to put together and should still hold its own at the track.

The other is to go stock de+t with 18g or hx35 with all the cheapish, necessary supporting mods. I love boost but I also love juice and no I'm not going with both. I have done the boost thing before and really want a ve but I lost sleep last night trying to figure cost to trap speed and times ratios.

If I had an unlimited budget, it would be a 2.4ve with a 150 direct port, 184c's and a custom spec'd 4 to 1 with custom intake manifold. Unfortunatly I am not rich or willing to put myself in debt again to build a car just for fun, so I am looking at my options and looking for some input from people who have ran some of these setups or similar.

Sorry for the long rambling,
Drew

Go for the VE route. The have been proving themselves every damn day under all circumstances. If funding allowed, I would have a built 92mm nitrous monster. None of my setups were as fun as my VE with 100 shot. I am speaking from stock DE motors up to a gti-r with SC61 so I think I have some room to talk. Figure a high comp 88x86 motor in a lightweight body will run low 12's with the proper driving/gearing. Once the bottle is in, 11's will come with ease. Its obviously a lot easier said than done but its possible.

I can't wait to see what an 88mm motor does. More so on the street/track than whp-wise.

That is what i think I am going to do, just because of the fact that I haven't done a VE myself but have installed a few. I know that it will be so much more fun off the bottle too. I really just have to set a budget first. If it were going to be a strictly drag car, I would consider the de. I used to have a de with s4's and a 50 shot, then a 75 shot with a hs gen 5 and 2 and 1/4 exhaust. It was high 13's with the 50 shot, never ran or dynoed the 75 or ran it at the track. I think you ended up with my old suspension off that car. I will set my budget and go from there, maybe just stock ve with a 100 shot or more till it pops. Gotta figure out the funds first.

Everyone is on some sort of budget, I've driven stock compression n1 cammed ve's and off the juice they are not bad, but i want a little more. I was thinking n1 or sr16 pistons on stock bore, somesort of daughterboard ecu, n1 cams and a hundred shot. I will use stock Nissan headbolts and headgasket, VET or 20V. They will hold fine. Should keep the cost relatively low. I don't have to pay any labor besides machine shop as I will be doing everything myself. I want to be in the high 11's with slicks. It may take a custom intake but I will can add that later.

I want to try something that hasn't been done much before, hence the 88mm build I mentioned. I do not have a rush time on this and can take my time. While I gather parts I will look for a chassis. My wallet says stock bore and stock Nissan upgrade pistons, cams and headgasket. My heart is set on trying something different and being able to run a 150 shot comfortably. My buddy and I are always competing and he loves his small block on juice so I have something to keep up with. He did not run nearly as good of times and mph as he should have, so I know I could run him on a stock ve with sr16 cams and a 100 shot. LOL, I told him he needs to tune, hehehe
