thanks . I've also been thinking of going 88mm.. I've had two bad experiences with sleeving in the past but I constantly dream of that 2.3.. tough decision for me

I have another VE to play with now, so many things can happen. I like this 88mm build.

86mm = 10 to 1 (factory Piston)
87mm = 10.2 to 1
88mm = 10.4 to 1
89mm = 10.6 to 1
90mm = 10.8 to 1
91mm = 11 to 1
92mm = 11.2 to 1

DE flat top piston with BC S2 cam. If i'm going with adjustable cam gear and want to advance intake setup. Should i go for Top notch piston?

Newbies question here..

So do I.. Hell that money saved on sleeves can buy a intake manifold and header if played out right. Now I know you will not net the same whp but, it will still make a decent amount more than a stock bore motor.

Dre, would it be risky to bottle the 88mm piston with the stock sleeves bored to 88

I remember back in the day when i bored out to 87mm everyone was saying the sleeves where to thin (maybe for boost). I guess for N/A 88mm should be good.

^Especially at 12.5:1. This would be so gravy just to put 93 pump in the tank and ride out. <--- Literally with shades on.

The stock sleeves are still a decent thickness. Id say 88 should be just fine. I should have measured the sleeve thickness when i put a hole in one with the rod. But from what it looks like, they are probably 5-7mm thick so taking a mm all the way around which would be 88 mm bore, should be just fine in my opinion. That would leave you 4-6. I have a spare block i might have cut in half and see for myself just how thick the stock sleeves are.

I would think a 2.1 12.5:1-13:1 compression VE with a good intake mani and header could put down some serious power again without having to spend 1500-2000 for sleeving.
