Thread: gotta go bigger then 2 1/4 inch exhaust?

I have a hotshot DE header we modified the bolt holes to slide it up a bit to line up with the VE ports, But its the older Hotshot so its only 2 1/4 inch. is that a good thing or should I think of one day getting the 2.5inch ebay header?

So an ASP, Fuji, SSAC, Mazworx's or "Super-Baller Custom" header is both the most likely and first restriction point in any given VE exhaust?

The 2.5" collector has been shown over and over again to make more power on a DE. The 2.25" is doing nothing for your VE.

You don't have to use the same components... what I'm saying is you can use the same principle to make your own. Take a look at the link if you have time.

It all depends on the specs of the header. Size/length/Choke/Design etc. An exhaust can be a restriction if the primary or choke is too small.



This is false sir. On a fully bolted 2.0 high comp VE 2.25" choke is more than enough in most cases. There are many variables including header primary size, step sizes (if applicable) etc that effect overall power. Call up burns and have them spec a 2.0 header and see what choke they recommend.

Then you have a 4-2-1 vs. 4-1 which changes things even more. I have tested a 4-2-1 with a 2.5" choke that lost power if anything bigger than a 2.5" exhaust was used. a 2 3/8 exhaust actually helped the motor make 10whp more than the 3".

Shawn I dynoed tuned a stock VE not too long ago with a 2.5" SSAC, 2.5" cat and 2 1/4 exhaust. The car made a whopping 119whp on the first pull. At the end of the day we could only squeeze 136whp out of it.

Dammmm was that with a real time ecu? Maybe ill leave my exhaust alone then.

To clarify; the question was asked about the well known Hotshot 2.25" header versus the well known 2.5" SSAC header. Take my reply in that context only.

^When I read stuff like this, I sometimes question myself why go big bore for the extra 15 HP's if I'm just going to daily the car, then I remember the term "under the curve". Man you boys are doing some mad tuning in CT.
